Frequently Asked Questions

How does the design process work?

Generally, we start with an interview in the office to discuss the scope of work, followed by an on-site visit to discuss in detail your wants & needs, etc. and to do a site assessment. We then prepare the preliminary design concept which may include layouts, colour and materials, and furnishings, which we present to you at our next meeting. From the meeting feedback, we continue to develop the design. We continue this back and forth until the design package is complete.

How much will the design cost?

We work from value based flat fees. Once we know the scope of work for your project, we will estimate these design fees. The only variable is the number of meetings that we will have.

What if I don’t like the design proposal?

In the beginning of the process, we will ask lots of questions to discover your likes and dislikes. Collecting photos of things or rooms that you like, give us many clues into your personal style. We will present 2-3 of options in the beginning for you to select from and then we build the design from there. Effective communication is very important and we strive to really listen to you.

How long will the design process take?

It all depends on the size of the project & how quickly you make decisions. Once we know the scope of work, we can estimate the time required for the design process. The design process takes time - from our time to develop the concept, to you processing and making decisions, to finalizing drawings and specifications. Remember: Prior proper planning prevents costly mistakes!

Can I use my own contractor or build it myself?

At the end of the design process you will have a complete package of drawings and specifications that anyone can build from. If you don’t have a contractor, we can provide you with the names of highly qualified and reputable contractors that we have worked with for many years.
